Watson Williams Elementary School hosted its Fall Open House for students and families in September 2026.
Starting this Winter, the Utica City School District is excited to host Kindergarten information sessions. These monthly events will rotate between our 10 elementary schools, offering games and activities intended to introduce incoming kindergarten students and their families to the District.
All families with a child who will turn five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2027, are invited to attend to:
- Learn about the kindergarten registration process
- Engage with community organizations
- Connect with local supports and resources
- Prepare for the transition to kindergarten
Families with prospective kindergartners are encouraged to join us on any of the following dates:
- Dec. 2, 2026 – Watson Williams Elementary School
- Jan. 6, 2027 – Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School
- Feb. 3, 2027 – Hugh R. Jones Elementary School
- March 3, 2027 – General Herkimer Elementary School
- March 17, 2027 – Albany Elementary School
- April 7, 2027 – Christopher Columbus Elementary School
- April 28, 2027 – Roscoe Conkling Elementary School
- May 5, 2027 – John T. Hughes Elementary School
- May 19, 2027 – Thomas Jefferson Elementary School
- June 2, 2027 – Kernan Elementary School
In our effort to best serve every student, our Family Liaison and Perch Place team has developed a brief family questionnaire to gather feedback about the types of resources families need, topics of interest, preferred days and times for events, home languages and food preferences. The survey was specifically designed to be easy and accessible to complete.

We’ve chosen Watson Williams Elementary School to host our first Kindergarten information session in December. Looking ahead to January 2027, MLK Elementary will host the second event, with the rest of our elementary schools to follow through the Winter and Spring.
Additionally, we hope to partner with The Center, formerly known as The Refugee Center, in an effort to provide multilingual materials to ensure families have access to kindergarten registration and readiness information in their home languages.
Our kindergarten information events are intended to help us begin building relationships with families before their children start school, and provide them with the resources they need for a successful transition.
