Sixth graders at MLK recently turned sunshine into science during a hands-on lesson with Ms. Rauscher, creating their own solar ovens to learn how solar energy converts into thermal energy. Students later shared their learning with the entire school on the MLK Morning Show, explaining, “The energy from the sun is reflected off the aluminum foil. The energy reflects onto the black paper, which absorbs the energy and converts it into thermal energy that heated our marshmallows and chocolate to make our s’mores.” After putting their scientific knowledge to the test, students enjoyed the sweet reward of homemade s’mores. Thank you to Ms. Rauscher for creating such an engaging and memorable learning experience for MLK’s sixth graders!
